Sunday League Football

English Sunday League Football, the standard of football that the best and most paid footballers in England started at and where they fell in love with the game. The pitches may be horrible, one week they could be waterlogged, the next they could be like a desert, but the love of the game is what keeps bringing people from all age groups back every week to have a kick around with their mates. Whether you’re 4 years old, or 40 years old, it doesn’t matter, you can still enjoy the beautiful game with your friends week in week out…unless the game is called off, which believe me, it happens a lot.

If you’re interested in playing for a Sunday League team, you may need to become more familiar with some phrases used in the game, phrases which every Sunday League player in the country will be familiar with. For example “Still 0-0”, your team could be winning 5-0 and someone would still be shouting “still 0-0 boys”, basically saying not to let your confidence make your become complacent…or the team joker trying to be funny. And yes, every team has a joker. A phrase used most often is “Ref, how long??” due to that being the only way of knowing in Sunday League. However, you should expect to get some referees that aren’t exactly fair, in Sunday League you can go from having an official FA Referee one week, to having the opposing teams manager the next week, if this happens, you should expect some dodgy decisions, and an extra 10 minutes to be played if the opposition team is losing.

If you love having a kick around with your mates, keeping fit and feeling part of a team that you will be friends with for the rest of your life, then Sunday League Football is the perfect thing for you.
